Waterproof vs water-resistant sex toys: what the labels really mean

“Waterproof” is one of those delightfully simple words that becomes complicated the moment you meet the fine print. Splashproof, shower-friendly and IPX7 may all sound ready for a swim, but they do not necessarily mean the same thing.

Start with the practical question: shower splashes, running water or full immersion? Our three Le Wand massagers range from shower-friendly Mini Micro to the strictly dry full-size Grey. Petite carries an IPX7 label but still should not be immersed or rinsed.

Three wands, three water stories

Model Water rating Where it can go How to care for it
Le Wand Mini Micro Wand IPX5, splash-proof and shower-friendly Shower splashes, not the bath Do not immerse it
Le Wand Petite Rose Gold IPX7 and shower-friendly; not submersible Keep it out of the bath Do not immerse it or rinse it under water
Le Wand Grey Rechargeable Massager Neither waterproof nor splashproof Dry rooms only Keep it away from water and do not rinse it

The complete instruction matters more than the most exciting word on the box. Other models in our sexual massagers collection may have completely different rules.

Read the rating, then read the sentence after it.

Mini Micro: shower-friendly, not bath-ready

The Le Wand Mini Micro is IPX5, splash-proof and shower-friendly. Its instructions draw the line at immersion.

In ordinary language: shower splashes are in; dropping it into the bath is not.

Shower-friendly, not submersibleThe Mini Micro is IPX5, splash-proof and shower-friendly: fine around shower splashes, but not for immersion.

Petite: IPX7, but not for immersion

The Le Wand Petite is shower-friendly, but not bath-ready. Keep it out of the bath and do not rinse it under the tap.

Full-size Grey: refreshingly clear

The full-size Grey leaves no room for interpretive dance: it is neither waterproof nor splashproof and should not be used in a shower or bath.

Keep it away from water, never immerse it and do not wash it with water. This is the dry-land member of the trio.

Shop for the routine you actually want

The bathroom plan makes the shortlist easy:

  • Choose Mini Micro if shower splashes are part of the plan but the bath is not.
  • Choose Petite for its size and controls, not as an underwater wand; keep it out of the bath and away from running water.
  • Choose full-size Grey only when a completely dry routine suits you.

Close relatives can have completely different bathroom rules. Buy for the routine you will actually follow.

The rating stops at the massager

The water rating applies to the massager body. It does not extend to the charging cable, USB adaptor or full-size power adaptor.

Keep cables and adaptors dry. A massager's rating does not magically travel down the cord.

Your 30-second water check

Before buying, find four things:

  1. The exact model name.
  2. Its IP, splash or shower wording.
  3. What the care instructions allow around water.
  4. Which cables or adaptors must stay dry.

When the rating and care wording pull in different directions, choose the routine both allow.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between waterproof, splashproof and water-resistant?

They are not interchangeable promises. Read the model's rating and its full water instruction together.

Does IPX7 mean the Le Wand Petite can be submerged?

No. Although it carries an IPX7 label, the Petite is not made for submersion or rinsing.

Can the Le Wand Mini Micro be used in a shower?

Yes, around shower splashes. It is splash-proof and shower-friendly, but it should not be immersed.

Can any of these three models be used in a bath?

No. Mini Micro is not for immersion, Petite is not designed for submersion, and the full-size Grey is explicitly not waterproof or splashproof.

Can I wash or submerge the whole massager?

Does the massager's rating cover its charging cable or adaptor?

No. The cables and adaptors have no water-protection rating and should stay dry.
