Prostate massager buying guide: finding your shape and controls

Black Dr. Joel Kaplan Rechargeable Prostate Massager with a curved rounded head on a white background

Three prostate massagers can share a category and still have almost nothing else in common. One is manual, one keeps its controls on the toy and one arrives with a remote—before you even get to the curves, textures and measurements.

That is good news for your shortlist. Forget chasing the model with the grandest name or the longest mode count. Start with four details you can actually compare: size, shape, the section that stays outside and how you want to control it.

Three very different ways to shop the category

Product Size Shape and external section Controls
Dr. Joel Kaplan Rechargeable Prostate Massager 19 × 2.5 cm overall Smooth narrow shaft, curved head and rounded end Ten incremental speeds, memory and a three-second travel lock
NEXUS Titus Prostate Massager Purple 9 cm insertable length; 3.8 cm maximum shaft width Curved ribbed shaft and a two-ended external crosspiece with a removable stainless-steel roller ball Manual—no buttons, modes or remote
NEXUS Bendz Prostate Edition 10 cm insertable length; 4 cm maximum shaft width Bendable, multi-lobed shaft with a precision tip and curved external section Slim remote with six shaft modes and six base modes

First, choose your level of gadgetry

Titus is the wonderfully uncomplicated option here: it is manual. Dr. Joel keeps ten incremental speeds on the toy, remembers the last speed and adds a travel lock. Bendz hands control to a slim remote and divides its settings between the shaft and base.

There is no gold medal for owning the most modes. Picture the moment you want to change a setting: would you rather reach for one on-toy control, use a separate remote or skip electronics altogether? That answer will narrow the field faster than any feature tally.

The best control scheme is the one you can understand without breaking the mood.

Compare the same ruler marks

Sex-toy measurements love a plot twist. “Overall length” describes the whole product; “insertable length” describes only the section labelled for insertion. They are not interchangeable.

Dr. Joel measures 19 × 2.5 cm overall, without a separate insertable figure. Titus is 9 cm insertable and 3.8 cm at its widest shaft point; Bendz is 10 cm insertable and 4 cm at its widest. Titus and Bendz can go side by side on those two measurements. Keep Dr. Joel in the overall-size column.

Our product-dimensions guide keeps length, width, diameter and circumference straight, so you can compare the same measurement across your shortlist.

Curves have character

Look at where the shaft changes direction, whether the tip is rounded or more pointed, and whether the surface is smooth, ribbed or lobed. Those details make a far more useful visual comparison than the word “prostate” on the box.

Dr. Joel has a long, smooth shaft and rounded curved head. Titus is shorter and ribbed, while Bendz uses a bendable, multi-lobed shaft with a more precise tip. These three silhouettes make the choice far clearer than the category label.

Do not ignore the part that stays outside

The external section is not an afterthought. It can hold the controls, create a second vibration zone or give the product an entirely different silhouette.

Titus has a crosspiece with a removable stainless-steel roller ball. Bendz turns its curved external section into a separately controlled vibration zone. Dr. Joel continues into a rounded end, with its single control on the shaft. Compare their full side profiles: the section outside the body matters just as much as the shaft.

Mode maths is not a personality test

Dr. Joel's ten settings are incremental speeds on one motor. Bendz has six modes for the shaft and another six for the base. Those are different control systems, so adding the numbers together will not tell you which one is more enjoyable or easier to use.

Instead, write one plain-English line beside each option: manual; one on-toy control; or remote with two zones. That turns an impressive-looking mode count into a decision you can picture.

Your five-minute shortlist

For each product, jot down:

  1. whether its length is overall or insertable;
  2. its maximum width;
  3. the visible curve, tip and surface profile;
  4. the shape and features of the external section; and
  5. whether control is manual, on the product or through a remote.

If the deciding detail is missing, ask us in store and we'll help you compare the closest pair. The final pair should make the decision easier—not leave you squinting at a product photo with an imaginary ruler.

Frequently asked questions

How is a prostate massager different from a butt plug?

A prostate massager is shaped for targeted positioning, while a butt plug belongs to a broader family of tapered designs with a flared external base. Compare the individual product's shape and measurements before choosing; our first anal-toy guide gives the broader plug-versus-beads-versus-prostate-toy comparison.

What size, curve or base should a beginner choose?

Start with clearly labelled dimensions and a shape you understand, then choose the controls and complete silhouette that make the most sense to you. There is no single size or curve that suits everybody.

Does a prostate massager need to vibrate?

No. Titus is manual, while Dr. Joel and Bendz add powered controls. Decide whether you want vibration before comparing how many settings it has.

Is an overall length the same as insertable length?

No. Dr. Joel's 19 cm is an overall measurement, while the 9 cm for Titus and 10 cm for Bendz are insertable lengths. Keep them in separate columns.

Is a remote automatically easier than an on-toy button?

A remote can be handy, but it is also another thing to hold and may split the functions into zones. Choose the control style you can imagine using without a mid-moment instruction-manual consultation.

Where should I look for use, care or lubricant guidance?

Use the instructions supplied with your product for its care and lubricant needs. Our first anal-toy guide covers the broader shopping and preparation basics.
