Air-pulse stimulators vs vibrators
Air-pulse stimulators and vibrators can sit on the same shelf and do very different jobs. One uses a soft opening and changing air pressure around the target area; the other puts a moving surface directly against the body.

What “air pulse” actually changes
Satisfyer calls it Air Pulse Technology; Womanizer calls it Pleasure Air Technology. Both use changing air pressure through a soft silicone opening positioned around the clitoral area. The rim still rests against the body—“contactless” describes the sensation inside the opening, not a toy hovering in mid-air.
A vibrator moves its head or body directly against the skin. A bullet concentrates that movement; a wand spreads it across a broad head. Moving the toy or altering pressure changes the contact.

A direct-contact vibrator is less dependent on one alignment point. A bullet can trace a small area or rest on its flatter side; a wand can cover more ground and change from light contact to firmer pressure. That freedom can make direct vibration easier to explore, but it also means your hand creates more of the movement.

Combination products need separate controls
Some products blur the two columns. That can be useful when the functions remain independently controllable.

The number of settings does not tell you how large the jump between them feels. Six well-spaced levels are easy to learn; a longer scale gives you finer control. Begin low and work upwards.
Noise varies with the mechanism, setting, seal, surface contact and room. Air-pulse products can change sound when the nozzle is not aligned; a wand can sound different when its head presses against a surface. Terms such as “whisper mode” are not a promise that another person cannot hear the product.
For practical discretion, compare the whole routine instead:
- Does it have a travel lock?
- Can it be stopped immediately?
- Is the charging cable easy to identify?
- Does it need a separate nozzle or cap for storage?
- Can it dry somewhere private without trapping moisture?
Nozzle fit, cleaning and lubricant
For an air-pulse model, check whether the nozzle comes off and whether other sizes are included or available. A little compatible lubricant around the rim can make positioning easier on some models; keep it away from the air opening and follow the product's care guide.
For either format, use the lubricant recommended for the product. Water-based lubricant is a practical starting point for many toys, while silicone and hybrid formulas need a specific compatibility check with silicone and soft-touch surfaces.
Clean before and after use. “Waterproof” and “water-resistant” are not the same, so match the washing routine to the product's rating. Keep water and cleaner out of air openings, let every part dry and make sure the charging contacts are completely dry before reconnecting power.
If a toy is shared, the NHS advises washing it and using a new condom between partners or body openings.
Which format sounds more like you?
Start with air pulse when you are curious about a precisely positioned soft opening. Choose direct vibration when you want to roam across a wider area, vary hand pressure or select a contact size from bullet to wand.
Choose a combination only when you want both sensations and the controls let you use them separately. If half the buttons will never get touched, a simpler model is the better buy.

Is a bullet more precise than an air-pulse nozzle?
